They may have the biggest site, but PokerStars hasn’t had the easiest time the last year or so. They dealt with Black Friday last April, and they have also lost some key members of their team since then. For example, John Duthie was a Team PokerStars member and also the creator of the EPT. However in December of last year, he chose against renewing his contract with the site. Is there a chance that he will download Roulette and try to get into the casino industry?

Thomas Kremser is another member of the team that left last year. Kremser acted as an EPT tournament director for PokerStars from 2004, but he decided to leave his job just a month after Black Friday. The online poker industry was very surprised that Kremser did this.

The most recent source of shock for the online poker industry came from the news that Gabi Campos, the PokerStars CEO, has decided to resign. Campos originally gained experience as an online poker executive after spending three years with 888Poker. He joined up with PokerStars in October 2010, and his last day of work will be January 31st.

Officials of the PokerStars download released a statement regarding Campos in the middle of January. It stated that “Gabi Campos has decided to step down from his position as Chief Executive Officer, effective Feb. 1, 2012, to pursue other opportunities .” It also mentioned that a “search for Gabi’s replacement is under way.”

Now the question is whether or not the replacement CEO will be someone already working for PokerStars, or whether it will be someone else in the industry with experience at another site. Everyone with a vested interest in PokerStars will certainly keep their ears perked for some news.

These accomplishments gained him a spot on Team PokerStars Online a couple years ago. Since then, he has expanded his game to brick-and-mortar tournaments. Lew planned to try to break some record during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and he had been asking his Twitter followers for suggestions. Sure enough, he decided to try to play the most hands ever in an eight hour span while still earning profit.

He got to work on January eighth. He started with around forty tables of $50NL and tried to keep that up for the entire 8 hour span. He was down around $1.2k at one point, however, and was forced to add $5/$10 NL to get back in the black fast.

Amazingly, Lew did not take a single break the entire time. This included breaks for the washroom and for food! He must have been very hungry after he was finished.

When it got down to the 8th hour of his record setting attempt, Lew was barely up money at all. He must have been nervous since running bad at any moment would threaten to foil his entire effort.

In the end, though, Lew was able to succeed. He finished the session with just one table, and ended up in the green by $7.65. In eight hours he was able to play almost 23.5k hands, which is almost 3k hands/hour. This equated to an amazing 49 hands/minute! He received an astounding 22.7k FPPs.

EPT Prague followed WPT Prague just a short time after, and it attracted a record breaking field. 722 players paid the €5,300 buy-in, creating a prize pool of €3,501,700. This created a giant first place payout of €720,000.

Many talented players fell short of the final table, including Chris Moorman who finished in 15th for €23,000. Moorman has long been a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the best Euro poker sites. Boyaciyan continued his upward trend as his AK suited held against Denys Drobyna’s A7 suited, taking the players to four handed play.

It was at this time that Martin Finger went on a roll. He was the first player over 10 million chips, and he added to his stack even more by knocking out two players in a row. First his KK held up against Guillem Usero’s A8. Then his AJ also held against Levi’s 86 to finish him off in third place.

Finger began heads-up play with a roughly two and a half to one chip lead over Boyaciyan. Boyaciyan and Finger battled for hours until the two clashed in a big coinflip situation. Finger held AK and was up against Boyaciyan’s TT. The KK6 flop put Finger ahead and that’s where he stayed, sending Boyaciyan out in 2nd place.

Schultz and Lowery went with what some might see as an odd decision: they chose to skip three levels of the structure to speed the tournament up due to the fact heads-up play began very deep stacked. Not long afterward, Lowery and Schultz played a big preflop all-in pot with Schultz in big trouble with J9 of diamonds against Lowery’s AJ. However the board was kind to Schultz as he made a flush on the turn, which crippled Lowery. Lowery couldn’t come back and had to settle for 2nd place, making Schultz the WSOPC Harveys Lake Tahoe champion.

It became clear that no one was intending on sitting around as the very first hand produced one of the biggest pots of the tournament. After a series of raises, Lamb and Staszko got their stacks in with KJ and 77 respectively. Staszko won the flip, which crippled Lamb. Heinz was able to keep this chip lead for around 30 hands, but then Staszko ran an amazing bluff that allowed him to have the chip lead for 30 hands himself. Heinz was aggressive and regained the chip lead, but he lost it again a mere 15 hands later. So much back and forth – probably more than you’ll ever see on a Bodog Poker download.

Staszko didn’t give this chip lead up easily. In fact, he whittled Heinz all the way down to just 25bb with some very well timed plays. While Heinz got a little discouraged, he didn’t let Staszko deal the killing blow. He did what he had to do: survive long enough to see the biggest hand of the night.

The two players saw a flop of KT7cc and got their chips in the middle, Heinz all-in for the rest of this chips. Heinz was slightly ahead with AQhh, but Staszko had an incredible number of outs with his Q9cc. Staszko could not find one of his outs, however, which gave Heinz a big chip lead.

Finally this was a chip lead that Heinz would not relinquish. Eight hands later, he called Staszko’s push with AK and was ahead of T7 suited. AK held which meant that Heinz was the first German winner of the WSOP Main Event ever!

The House of Representatives has discussed online poker a number of times, with bigwig Barney Frank a consistent instigator of debate. By contrast, the Senate have not touched the issue since the original UIGEA was passed in 2006.

Proceedings took place in the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, which means that both houses on Capitol Hill have considered online poker in recent times.

“It’s encouraging that the House subcommittee is acting so quickly,” said John Pappas. “They could have punted to after Thanksgiving, but they chose to tackle it before the break.”
