Bryan Schultz Wins WSOPC Lake Tahoe

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

The World Series of Poker Circuit travels all over the United States of America, bringing events to just about every corner of the country. The beauty of these events is that they’re quite accessible since a lot of the main events don’t require a giant bankroll. The recent event at Harveys Lake Tahoe was no exception.

Since they can’t play on a William Hill Poker download, Americans are looking to casinos to fulfill their poker cravings. With two Day 1s, a grand total of 327 players participated at $1,600 a piece, with 181 of them surviving to Day 2. 11 of those players made it to Day 3 to play for the $111,812 grand prize. It took just 30 minutes of play for the remaining players to get down to the final 9, the final table.

Casey McCarrel started the final table in fourth position but doubled Chris Clark up soon after the final table began. Ten minutes later he was gone in 9th place after committing the last of his chips with an overcard and a flush draw against Ron Segni’s top pair.

Segni enjoyed the chip lead early on in the final table until his…

Day 2 of the WSOP 2011 November Nine

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Last week I posted a summary of the WSOP Main Event final table. The WSOP Main Event is the most prestigious event of all the casinos for USA players, and just three players made Day 2 of the final table. Pius Heinz was the chip leader with 90 big blinds, and then Ben Lamb and Martin Staszko were quite far behind with 45 and 35 big blinds respectively.

It became clear that no one was intending on sitting around as the very first hand produced one of the biggest pots of the tournament. After a series of raises, Lamb and Staszko got their stacks in with KJ and 77 respectively. Staszko won the flip, which crippled Lamb. Lamb never recovered and the WSOP Player of the Year for 2011 was soon out in 3rd place.

Stacks were deep, but no one would have guessed that the two remaining players were about to play an incredible 120 hands over 6 hours. Staszko started with a small chip lead when heads-up play began, but this was quickly taken away from him by Heinz a few hands in.

Heinz was able to keep this chip lead for around 30 hands, but then…

Day One of the WSOP 2011 November Nine

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

The World Series of Poker Main Event has been the biggest tournament in the world for as long as most people can remember. It is the dream of everyone to win it, from new players to talented pros on the PKR download.

This year’s $10,000 WSOP Main Event began with 6,865 players spread out over four Day 1s, and there were two Day 2s to accommodate those remaining from Day 1. In total there was 8 days of play and then everything was stopped once just nine players were left. The November Nine was scheduled for 109 days later on November 6th.

Bob Bounahra, Sam Holden, Anton Makiievskyi, and Pius Heinz had stacks with 40 big blinds or less when the final table got going. These stacks gave them a little breathing room, but they wouldn’t be able to sit around and wait forever. Martin Stazsko began the final table in the pole position with over 80 big blinds.

No one was eliminated until the 51st hand of the day. Holden busted by running AJ suited into Ben Lamb’s AK. Holden was out in 9th place, and everyone else was guaranteed at least $1,010,015 thanks to the…

WSOP Circuit Event Wraps Up in Hammond Indiana

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Since the online poker best sites have been out of business in the States since April, live tourneys across the country have seen a massive increase in attendance this year. The World Series of Poker Circuit event in Indiana was no exception.

1,615 players showed up and put up $1,600 a piece, which created handsome prize pool of $2,349,825. It was the biggest field the event had ever seen, as first place was scheduled to win $393,584! I doubt that you can win this much playing a normal day on a Ladbrokes Poker download.

The final table started out fast and furious with Eric Crain’s QJ cracking Shawn Quinn’s AK in an all-in preflop confrontation, which sent Quinn out in 9th. The next elimination came at the hands of Bob Chow. He held JT against Drazen Ilich’s KK on a 983 flop and the two of them got it in. Ilich was ahead when the chips went in, but a 7 was dealt on the turn and he was drawing dead.

Joe Hebda didn’t wait long to bust after Ilich as the very next hand he shoved AT into Aaron Steury’s JJ. Steury faded the AT, and…

WSOP Announce HoF Class of 2011

Friday, November 4th, 2011

After weeks of deliberation, 2011’s Poker HoF inductees are due to be revealed before the start of the November Nine. Barry Greenstein and Linda Johnson are the two names selected to receive the honor this year. This list of poker greats is operated by the World Series of Poker and will commit both names to the record on November 8th.

Anyone who follows poker will know the name Barry Greenstein. Known internationally for his appearances on TV, Greenstein is regarded as one of the toughest cash game players in the world. The proud owner of 3 bracelets and a pair of WPT crowns, Greenstein is no slouch in the tournament area.

Away from the poker table he is a well known philanthropist. For years, he has given his net earnings from poker tournaments to charity, only keeping the money he needs to keep himself in the game. This unparalleled poker generosity has earned him the title the ‘Robin Hood of Poker’.

Alongside the likes of Negreanu and Moneymaker, Barry has been at the forefront of Team PokerStars Bonus Code. Greenstein is also well known for handing out a copy of his book Ace on the River to any player…

Allen Bari Wins WSOP Event #4

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

The first in a long line of 2011 bracelet winners have been enshrined. Among their number is first-time WSOP victor Allen Bari. The 26-year-old has been a regular tournament grinder for a few years, but has reached a new high point with his success in Event #4.

The $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Tournament was one of the most popular so far, with 865 players electing to pay the entry fee. The lack of us poker sites has seen tournament fields swell so far this year and while the party atmosphere might not be as buoyant as usual, there are still reasons for hope.

Allen Bari will certainly be feeling pretty good about his World Series, having picked up a career-defining $874,116. The famously arrogant player has attracted more than his fair share of criticism over the years. “I don’t lie. I’m just better than most people at poker,” he told reporters after the event. Having not won a major title since the 2008 Borgata Summer Open, many were beginning to question his bravado.

Thankfully he always had a friend and backer in live and online poker best tournament master Jason Mercier. “I think Allen’s been one of the…

WSOP Rematches Crown New Victors

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Just mentioning the WSOP evokes years of history. Players measure their worth in the bracelets and define their careers by moments of glorious success or crushing failure. Nowhere are these twin forces more acutely felt than during the final moments of the Main Event. Becoming poker’s World Champion is an incredible feat, but it means heartbreak for your defeated opponent.

Yesterday at the 2011 WSOP, a select group of players were given the chance to relive their famous heads-up battles. First up, Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth squared off in front of the poker video cameras. Hellmuth’s victory in 1989 launched his career. At just 24-years-old he became the youngest ever Main Event winner. Already a legend, Chan was aiming for an unprecedented third consecutive victory.

Hellmuth took some time to reminisce before yesterday’s rematch. “When we sat down to play the final, I leaned over and whispered, ‘I’m going to play perfect poker today, so the only way you’re going to beat me is if you play perfect and get lucky.’”

That might have been true in 1989, but in 2011 The Orient Express dominated the match. As the Rio Casino download roulette tables tinkled in the…

Keep Yourself Entertained on a Budget in Vegas

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

A few days ago I wrote about passing time in Vegas with activities that are completely free. Don’t even think about that Bingo bonus during your free days because there is plenty of cheap entertainment to be found on the Strip. This entry will feature a list of cheap activities that will be a million times more fun than Bingo.

Food is obviously a universal favorite, so let’s start with the cheap food deals. If you are a big fan of shrimp, go for the deal offered by the San Francisco Shrimp Bar & Deli. You pay just $1.99 for shrimp with homemade sauce, lemon, and saltine crackers.

If you need some meat to go with your shrimp, the Hard Rock Hotel is the place for you. Mr. Lucky’s serves steak and shrimp for $7.77 24 hours a day! This meal includes everything: steak and three shrimp, mashed potatoes, salad, and a dinner roll. Take note that you have to specifically request this meal since it’s not on the regular menu.

If you are looking for a deal on drinks, head over to the Plaza. They serve well drinks for $2.50.

After a string of tournaments in…

Free Attractions on the Las Vegas Strip

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

WSOP is fast approaching and players everywhere are getting ready to play in casinos for USA players. If you are traveling to Vegas for your first World Series, be sure to schedule some off days in between tourneys. You will find yourself exhausted after a few consecutive days at the tables, so being able to relax and recharge on your off days is important for your mental health. Are you worried that you might be bored on these days away from the tables, however? This article will go over a few low cost but fun activities for someone trying to stay on a budget.

Free parking, free bet sportsbooks, free lunch. People love free stuff. So what can you do for free while in Vegas? There are plenty of free things to do if you are going to Vegas for the first time. For one, everyone should take a peak at the Bellagio’s outdoor fountains. It’s dancing but by water – the water moves in a choreographed fashion to music! When you are satisfied with what you have seen, you should continue on to the Bellagio Conservatory, which is also free.

If you adore animals, head to the…

ESPN To Screen WSOP Live

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

2011 may well be remembered as the year the WSOP properly entered the 21st Century. ESPN have offered sterling coverage of the series for many years, but there has always been a sizeable delay between the event itself and the program’s air date.

The delay all but forced dedicated poker fans into followed the words of reporters that descend on Las Vegas every summer, spoiling the fun of watching the events unfold. When the taped shows rolled around, the hardcore viewers may well have been playing internet slots.

This year, ESPN have upped their game, offering 6 solid days of almost-live broadcasts complete with hole cards. Day 3 to 8 of the Main Event will be shown with a 30-minute tape delay on ESPN, ESPN 2, and streamed across the interwaves on ESPN3.com.

That amount to 34 hours of live poker from July 14th – 19th. The action will be split between two feature tables, with the focus changing every 30 minutes. Although should there be an all-in & call on either table, the ESPN team will make sure cameras are on hand to capture it.

These games will reveal the hole cards post-flop. There have been semi-live WSOP…
