PokerStars Welcomes the Red Spade Open

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

I wrote a couple weeks ago that PokerStars does an amazing job when it comes to Sunday Majors and other special Sunday tournaments. Their selection of MTTs has been unmatched for quite some time now, and it could be a while before any other site can compete.

Sites like the Everest Poker download have the potential to give them a run for their money, but PokerStars has an uncanny ability to switch things up at just the right times. Their Sunday tourney schedule is about to get even more exciting with the addition of 2 new MTTs.

The first of these new tourneys will be a weekly occurrence and has been dubbed the Sunday Cubed. It features a $55 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with an optional $100 for a rebuy and add-on. The prize pool will be a minimum of $50,000 every week.

Like the Titan Poker bonus code, the Sunday Cubed is going to appeal mostly to those in Europe and Asia due to its 5:00 AM EST start time. People on the west coast of Canada won’t be playing it, but it’s a far fetched option for those on the east coast wanting…

Cash Prizes in PokerStars Regional Leagues

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

There are a lot of poker rooms for you to choose from, especially if you live outside of the United States. While everyone is able to make a Bodog Poker download, a lot of the other sites have a very specific target market in mind.

An example of a site that doesn’t put all their eggs in one basket is PokerStars. In order to market in specific places in the world, they host a lot of promotions that are restricted to certain places in the world. For instance, let’s take a look at their various poker leagues.

To participate in a poker league on the PokerStars download, you play scheduled MTTs with the intent of earning points. The more points you earn, the higher up on the leaderboard you place. There are always great prizes in store for those that can top the leaderboard at the end of each month.

PokerStars has three different regional leaderboards:

There are monthly leaderboards available for those that live in Australia and New Zealand, and the amount that they can win depends on the division they choose to play in. Division 1 hosts daily tournaments for $5 at 19:00 AEST, and…

Play the Sunday Million on PokerStars

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

If you used to play on the best US poker sites, you’ll be well aware that Sunday is a big day for tournament poker. A few weeks ago PokerStars altered the schedule of its Sunday Majors so that those that live in Europe have more of a chance to participate.

Your first opportunity to play a PokerStars Sunday Major is at 8:00 AM ET. For just $109, you get the chance to play for a prize pool of at least $75,000. Another $109 buy-in shows up at noon, but this time it has rebuys and add-ons. It has a $200,000 guarantee.

The 2nd largest guarantee of the week on PokerStars is found in the Sunday Warm-Up which begins at 11:00 AM ET and offers a $500k prize pool. The entry fee for this tourney is $215.

If you are a small stakes player, you should be at your computer at 13:30 ET for the Sunday Storm. Even though the guaranteed prize pool is an impressive $200k, the entry fee is an affordable $11.

The most prestigious tournament to win on the PokerStars download is called the Sunday Million. It features a massive $1,000,000 guarantee, and the buy-in…

Look Forward to Playing on PokerStars on the Weekend

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

For those hoping to bink a big prize playing poker tournaments, the weekend definitely offers the best chances. A huge percentage of the population gets weekends off from work, and what better way to spend their free time than at the tables! Therefore it makes sense that the number of people that download PokerStars increases dramatically when the work week is over.

Saturday always has a ton of action on the top Texas Holdem sites, but it’s not like there’s a schedule of tourneys exclusive to the day. This is in stark contrast to Sundays where there are multiple MTTs with huge guarantees on all major sites.

To fix this discrepancy, PokerStars decided to invent what is known as the Saturday Lineup. The Saturday Lineup consists of seven new tourneys that run exclusively on Saturdays. All of them have guaranteed prize pools, and they cater to those that play small stakes.

You need to be awake at 07:00 ET to play the first event, and it offers short-handed No Limit Hold’em. You can buy-in for $22 and the guarantee is $30,000.

If you have a tiny bankroll, consider playing the Saturday Micro for $3.30. The guarantee is…

Win Your Way into a PokerStars Main Event

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

People often choose poker rooms based on game selection and poker bonuses. Some sites are better for cash games than others, while other sites are better suited for tourneys. If you also really enjoy live games, satellites for live events might also be a selling point for you. PokerStars has always offered a variety of live satellites, but a recent change has made getting into huge live events even simpler.

I recently mentioned that PokerStars does not have any promotions for the WSOP this year. The PokerStars download doesn’t actually have any WSOP Main Event satellites at the moment. This does not mean that you can’t get into the WSOP Main Event via PokerStars though. There is something called the Main Event Passport that will get you to Vegas.

The Main Event Passport is not limited to just the WSOP. Upon winning a Main Event Passport, you have five options: the WSOP Main Event or one of four PokerStars tours. The PokerStars tours available include the PCA, EPT, LAPT, and APPT.

Each Main Event Passport is worth $13,000. It includes a Main Event buy-in for your tour of choice, and then also cash for expenses. Only a…

WSOP 2011 Not the Same without PokerStars

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Because of the US indictments back on April 15th, it is no longer possible to download PokerStars while living in the US. While players in other parts of the world have not lost the privilege of playing on the world’s largest poker site, they have still been affected by some changes that have resulted.

Some of the changes have been good. For instance, Europeans recently enjoyed a Spring Championship of Online Poker schedule that was much more European-friendly than in other years. There have also been some bad changes. For instance, some tournament guarantees have had to be reduced due to a smaller player base.

Some people will also be disappointed about the lack of PokerStars presence at the WSOP this summer. Years past have enjoyed some wonderful incentives for the WSOP courtesy of PokerStars. For instance, there was a year that saw people automatically become Supernova just for playing the Main Event donning a PokerStars logo. They also used to give bonus cash for winning the event. For example, Duhamel received $1 million in compensation for wearing the PokerStars logo and winning the event.

All of this was back when PokerStars was still one of the

Free Seats for PokerStars SCOOP 2011

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

If you used the PokerStars bonus code for the purpose of playing multi-table tournaments, SCOOP 2011 will give you something to look forward to. SCOOP stands for Spring Championship of Online Poker, and all of the tournaments in this annual series carry an impressive guarantee. If your bankroll is small, you don’t need to worry because SCOOP features low, medium, and high buy-ins for each of its events.

SCOOP 2011 takes place in May and consists of 36 events. You can play events on the weekend at either 10:00 am ET or 2:00 pm ET. You can play three events per day during the week: 11 am ET, 2:00 pm ET, and 5:00 pm ET. In past years the tournament start times were later than these, but that was back when PokerStars was considered the best online poker site for Americans. Since US players are no longer permitted on the site, the start times were changed to accommodate more European players.

All players should be able to find something they like in this series. There are, of course, plenty of No Limit Holdem tournaments. The buy-ins for the short-handed first event are $22, $215,and $2,100, and you will…

60 Billionth Hand Dealt on PokerStars

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

If you prefer ring games above everything else, chances are you were scouring the PokerStars download for open seats on March 29th. PokerStars was set to deal their 60 billionth cash hand that day, and there were plenty of great prizes to be won. If you were lucky enough to be at a table for a milestone hand, you could potentially win thousands of dollars.

The best prize was, of course, reserved for the 60 billionth hand. Like the other milestone hands, the amount of bonus money given was calculated by multiplying the VPP earned in the previous 50 hands by a certain dollar amount. The dollar amount for the 60 billion milestone was a whopping $500. The goal was to win the 60th billionth hand, however, because the winner was to receive even more money than this. They were scheduled to have their bonus money doubled, and they were also going to be given $60,000 on top!

On this day where increased VPPs meant more than just increased PokerStars rakeback, the number of ring tables was staggering. Players were playing as many tables as possible to give themselves the best chance of playing in the huge milestone…
