PokerStars CEO Resigns after 16 Months

Monday, January 30th, 2012

If you are an online poker player, some of your poker site options are Lock Poker, Titan Poker, Party Poker, and a William Hill Poker download. The site with the biggest amount of traffic, however, is currently PokerStars.

They may have the biggest site, but PokerStars hasn’t had the easiest time the last year or so. They dealt with Black Friday last April, and they have also lost some key members of their team since then. For example, John Duthie was a Team PokerStars member and also the creator of the EPT. However in December of last year, he chose against renewing his contract with the site. Is there a chance that he will download Roulette and try to get into the casino industry?

Thomas Kremser is another member of the team that left last year. Kremser acted as an EPT tournament director for PokerStars from 2004, but he decided to leave his job just a month after Black Friday. The online poker industry was very surprised that Kremser did this.

The most recent source of shock for the online poker industry came from the news that Gabi Campos, the PokerStars CEO, has decided to resign. Campos originally…

Randy Lew Sets Guinness World Record

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Randy Lew, better known as “nanonoko” online, has been very famous in the online poker community for a long time now. He has been one of the biggest winners in online cash games for a while, and he has achieved Supernova Elite every year since 2007. Supernova Elite has allowed him to gain a huge amount of PokerStars rakeback every year.

These accomplishments gained him a spot on Team PokerStars Online a couple years ago. Since then, he has expanded his game to brick-and-mortar tournaments. He recently took down his first major event in Macau for almost $500,000. And now, amazingly, he has added his name to the Guinness World Records.

Lew planned to try to break some record during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and he had been asking his Twitter followers for suggestions. I wanted to suggest trying to break a Bingo codes record, but I thought he probably wanted a poker related goal. Sure enough, he decided to try to play the most hands ever in an eight hour span while still earning profit.

He got to work on January eighth. He started with around forty tables of $50NL and tried to keep that…

PokerStars 10th Anniversary Celebrations a Success

Friday, December 30th, 2011

PokerStars sure knows how to throw a birthday party! This past month they gave out a myriad of poker bonuses and prizes, and they also hosted a couple record-breaking MTTs. Let’s take a look at these MTTs in a little more detail because the numbers are pretty impressive.

The first of these amazing tournaments was the World Record Tournament. Because PokerStars wanted to break their own world record for the biggest tournament field ever, they decided to host a $1 with a $250k guarantee. To entice everyone to register, they capped the field at $200k which guaranteed at least $50k in overlay.

The tourney only took slightly over 7 hours from start to finish. Once it got down to 3 players, a deal was made so that they could all receive at least $25k. The winner of the event was Sokoluk1991, a player from Russia. He received over $40k for his efforts.

The Sunday Storm, which has an $11 buy-in and a $200k guarantee, is usually the biggest MTT field every week on Pokerstars. To celebrate its anniversary, PokerStars ran a special version of the tournament with a $1 million guarantee. This meant that first place was guaranteed a…

PokerStars 10th Anniversary Tournaments

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

PokerStars has decided to celebrate their 10th birthday with promotions and huge tournaments for their players. They’re going all out in December, turning their biggest Sunday tournaments into even bigger and better events than usual.

A short while back, PokerStars broke the Guinness World Record for the largest number of players in a tournament. This was back when they were one of the biggest US friendly poker sites around, so they had plenty of help from Americans. For their tenth anniversary, though, PokerStars has decided to break the record again, this time without the USA.

On December 4th, they will host a $1 tournament in hopes of attracting 150,000 people. To help attract even higher stakes players, they are offering a $250,000 guarantee and have capped the tourney at 200,000 players. This means that PokerStars will be adding at least $50,000 to the prize pool! That’s some good value.

PokerStars lacks casino features like video poker, but they make up for it by offering the best value tournaments on the Internet today. For example, the Sunday Storm costs $11 to enter every week, but the prize pool is always at least $200,000. On December 11th, PokerStars is having…

EPT in Italy Taken Down by Andrey Pateychuk

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

To establish itself as one of the best Euro poker sites on the Internet, PokerStars created the European Poker Tour. San Remo in Italy was the last stop in the eighth season of the EPT that just wrapped up.

The tourney cost €4,900 to enter, and 847 people participated which created a rather large prize pool of €3,734,694. It meant €680,000 for the eventual victor. When I think of how much Deal or No Deal online I could play with that money, I get very excited.

When the final table started, Kevin Macphee was the short stack and Andrew Pateychuck was in fourth place. The final table bubble boy of the event was Johnny Lodden, a PokerStars Pro. Lex Veldhuis, another PokerStars Pro, finished slightly behind him in 15th place for €22,000.

Presumably card dead, Macphee folded the first 34 hands at the final table. He pushed all in on the 35th hand from the small blind with 56o. Barny Boatman, a poker pro, was not fooled, however, and called with Q7s. Macphee could not find his outs, so he was the first final table elimination in 8th place.

The chip leader of the final…

Bankroll Disaster for Sunday Million Runner Up

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Discovering poker for the first time is always exciting. Anyone with a good head for games will instantly want to play as much as they can. Online poker sites like Bono PokerStars offers them round the clock games and an account always ready to accept more money.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t serious pitfalls to be avoided. The history of the game is littered with players with well intentioned grinders who watch their bankroll quickly ebb away into nothing.

After grasping the fundamentals of the game, the next thing you need to master is bankroll management. The key is in knowing what stakes you should buy-into to keep you cash protected. If you play above your means, one run of bad luck is all that stands between you and bankruptcy.

There’s no doubting that I7AXA has go the fundamentals of poker mastered. As you can tell from his recent 2nd place finish in the Sunday Million. It certainly made downloading the PokerStars Download worthwhile. That put a whole $148,343 into a bankroll that had previously boasted only a a few thousand dollars.

As for bankroll management, it’s a totally different story. The Russian player decided to head straight…

World Cup of Poker on PokerStars is Back

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

PokerStars is, without a doubt, one of the most innovative money poker sites on the Internet. Running fun promotions is a priority for them, and they are always looking for ways to make the game just that much more fun. Long time users of the site should be familiar with the World Cup of Poker.

The World Cup of Poker puts countries from around the world against each other at the poker table. People that love sandy destinations will be happy to hear that the big event takes place on Paradise Island during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA).

It should come as no surprise that the theme of the World Cup of Poker is soccer. Each team has different positions that were inspired by the popular sport. There were four open spots on each team, and to receive one, a player was required to download PokerStars and place first in an online qualifier. The qualifiers ran on August 20th and 21st.

If you were a normal recreational player, there were three positions open to you. The goalkeeper position was a freeroll. Players had to pay $1.10 to compete for the defender position. Furthermore, the midfielder position…

VIP Status Requirements on PokerStars Drastically Reduced

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is less than a month away, and PokerStars has rolled out yet another excellent promotion called the VIP Club Mega Month. It will make it possible for those with small bankrolls to get into a few WCOOP events.

VIP Club Mega Month is a dream come true for low stakes players because now it will take just 10% of the normal VIP Player Points (VPP) requirement to get SilverStar status and up. PokerStars already has one of the best VIP programs of all the money poker sites, and now they have made it possible for even microstakes players to reap the full benefits of the program.

It breaks down as such: to attain SilverStar, you’ll need to get 75 VPP versus the usual 750 VPPPs; to get GoldStar, you’ll need 300 VPPs versus the usual 3,000 VPPs; and to get PlatinumStar, you’ll need just 750 VPPs versus 7,500 VPPs. Another way to quantify it is by determining the amount of rake you will have to pay to achieve each status. You need to spend a mere $14 in tournament fees to achieve SilverStar, and you have to pay $140 total…

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

The time many online tournament players regard as the best of the year is fast approaching as PokerStars finally released the 2011 World Championship of Online Poker finalized schedule. The prestigious online tournament series also known as WCOOP will get going in early September, so get prepared to make the switch from the Bwin Poker download when August is over.

The series features $30 million in guaranteed prizes, with 62 events over 22 days. These events include anything from No Limit Hold’em to Pot Limit Omaha and even a No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo 6-max Knockout event.

The WCOOP Main Event beats anything you’ll ever find on a Doyles Room download. It features an eye popping guarantee of $5 million and perhaps an even more astounding guaranteed first place prize of $1 million! Last year’s WCOOP Main Event broke the record for the single biggest payout ever in online…

PokerStars Welcomes the Red Spade Open

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

I wrote a couple weeks ago that PokerStars does an amazing job when it comes to Sunday Majors and other special Sunday tournaments. Their selection of MTTs has been unmatched for quite some time now, and it could be a while before any other site can compete.

Sites like the Everest Poker download have the potential to give them a run for their money, but PokerStars has an uncanny ability to switch things up at just the right times. Their Sunday tourney schedule is about to get even more exciting with the addition of 2 new MTTs.

The first of these new tourneys will be a weekly occurrence and has been dubbed the Sunday Cubed. It features a $55 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with an optional $100 for a rebuy and add-on. The prize pool will be a minimum of $50,000 every week.

Like the Titan Poker bonus code, the Sunday Cubed is going to appeal mostly to those in Europe and Asia due to its 5:00 AM EST start time. People on the west coast of Canada won’t be playing it, but it’s a far fetched option for those on the east coast wanting…
