Full Tilt Poker’s Hearing Rescheduled

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

April 15th is known to online poker players as Black Friday because everyone in the USA lost their ability to play on the three major poker sites. It wasn’t long before PokerStars allowed their American players to access their real money accounts, however. They could no longer earn PokerStars rakeback, but at least their money could be withdrawn.

Unfortunately, the outcome with Full Tilt Poker was quite the opposite. American funds have been locked up in cyberspace since Black Friday. And now even players outside of America have their funds locked up in Full Tilt.

The Alderney Gaming Control Commission (AGCC) decided to suspend Full Tilt Poker’s license on April 29th. Once one of the best Mac poker sites available, Full Tilt was no longer available to anyone. Part of the reason they lost their license was that they had not paid American players back yet.

Players were forced to look ahead to June 26th in hopes that they would get some information from the hearing between Full Tilt Poker and the AGCC. For weeks there were rumors bubbling of investors vying for Full Tilt Poker which would alleviate their cash flow issues. Therefore their standing with the…

WCOOP 2011 on PokerStars Scheduled for September

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

The time many online tournament players regard as the best of the year is fast approaching as PokerStars finally released the 2011 World Championship of Online Poker finalized schedule. The prestigious online tournament series also known as WCOOP will get going in early September, so get prepared to make the switch from the Bwin Poker download when August is over.

The series features $30 million in guaranteed prizes, with 62 events over 22 days. These events include anything from No Limit Hold’em to Pot Limit Omaha and even a No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo 6-max Knockout event.

The series will kick off at 10:00 AM EST on September 4th with a $215 No Limit Hold’em short-handed tourney with a minimum prize pool of $1 million. The last tourney of the series is three weeks later on September 21st when the $5,200 Main Event takes place.

The WCOOP Main Event beats anything you’ll ever find on a Doyles Room download. It features an eye popping guarantee of $5 million and perhaps an even more astounding guaranteed first place prize of $1 million! Last year’s WCOOP Main Event broke the record for the single biggest payout ever in online…

PokerStars Welcomes the Red Spade Open

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

I wrote a couple weeks ago that PokerStars does an amazing job when it comes to Sunday Majors and other special Sunday tournaments. Their selection of MTTs has been unmatched for quite some time now, and it could be a while before any other site can compete.

Sites like the Everest Poker download have the potential to give them a run for their money, but PokerStars has an uncanny ability to switch things up at just the right times. Their Sunday tourney schedule is about to get even more exciting with the addition of 2 new MTTs.

The first of these new tourneys will be a weekly occurrence and has been dubbed the Sunday Cubed. It features a $55 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with an optional $100 for a rebuy and add-on. The prize pool will be a minimum of $50,000 every week.

Like the Titan Poker bonus code, the Sunday Cubed is going to appeal mostly to those in Europe and Asia due to its 5:00 AM EST start time. People on the west coast of Canada won’t be playing it, but it’s a far fetched option for those on the east coast wanting…

Cash Prizes in PokerStars Regional Leagues

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

There are a lot of poker rooms for you to choose from, especially if you live outside of the United States. While everyone is able to make a Bodog Poker download, a lot of the other sites have a very specific target market in mind.

An example of a site that doesn’t put all their eggs in one basket is PokerStars. In order to market in specific places in the world, they host a lot of promotions that are restricted to certain places in the world. For instance, let’s take a look at their various poker leagues.

To participate in a poker league on the PokerStars download, you play scheduled MTTs with the intent of earning points. The more points you earn, the higher up on the leaderboard you place. There are always great prizes in store for those that can top the leaderboard at the end of each month.

PokerStars has three different regional leaderboards:

There are monthly leaderboards available for those that live in Australia and New Zealand, and the amount that they can win depends on the division they choose to play in. Division 1 hosts daily tournaments for $5 at 19:00 AEST, and…

Play the Sunday Million on PokerStars

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

If you used to play on the best US poker sites, you’ll be well aware that Sunday is a big day for tournament poker. A few weeks ago PokerStars altered the schedule of its Sunday Majors so that those that live in Europe have more of a chance to participate.

Your first opportunity to play a PokerStars Sunday Major is at 8:00 AM ET. For just $109, you get the chance to play for a prize pool of at least $75,000. Another $109 buy-in shows up at noon, but this time it has rebuys and add-ons. It has a $200,000 guarantee.

The 2nd largest guarantee of the week on PokerStars is found in the Sunday Warm-Up which begins at 11:00 AM ET and offers a $500k prize pool. The entry fee for this tourney is $215.

If you are a small stakes player, you should be at your computer at 13:30 ET for the Sunday Storm. Even though the guaranteed prize pool is an impressive $200k, the entry fee is an affordable $11.

The most prestigious tournament to win on the PokerStars download is called the Sunday Million. It features a massive $1,000,000 guarantee, and the buy-in…

Epic Poker League Has a New No. 1

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Federated Sports + Gaming have gone out of their way to make a splash since unveiling grand plans earlier this year. Via the recently named Epic Poker League, they hope to create a game-defining series that will separate poker’s very best players from the chasing pack.

Part of this scheme is the Global Poker Index (GPI). A ranking system which uses complex calculations to order players according to their performances in high stakes tournaments. The leaderboard has been active for a few weeks and updates every 7 days. It does not include results from money poker sites.

Some players will gain entry to the Epic Poker League via nods for lifetime achievement. Which is to say you’d be a madman to launch your high profile tournament event without Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson. As well as the big cash game players on the former best us poker sites.

However, most players will need to qualify via Pro-Am tournaments or seeded entry. The GPI is useful for ordering the seeding, as well as keeping a beady eye on the best performers of recent years.

Toping the table last week was Eugene Katchalov, who won his first WSOP bracelet last…

Look Forward to Playing on PokerStars on the Weekend

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

For those hoping to bink a big prize playing poker tournaments, the weekend definitely offers the best chances. A huge percentage of the population gets weekends off from work, and what better way to spend their free time than at the tables! Therefore it makes sense that the number of people that download PokerStars increases dramatically when the work week is over.

Saturday always has a ton of action on the top Texas Holdem sites, but it’s not like there’s a schedule of tourneys exclusive to the day. This is in stark contrast to Sundays where there are multiple MTTs with huge guarantees on all major sites.

To fix this discrepancy, PokerStars decided to invent what is known as the Saturday Lineup. The Saturday Lineup consists of seven new tourneys that run exclusively on Saturdays. All of them have guaranteed prize pools, and they cater to those that play small stakes.

You need to be awake at 07:00 ET to play the first event, and it offers short-handed No Limit Hold’em. You can buy-in for $22 and the guarantee is $30,000.

If you have a tiny bankroll, consider playing the Saturday Micro for $3.30. The guarantee is…

Rep. Barton Unveils Details of His Pro-Poker Bill

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

It’s fair to say that previous legislative attempts to clear the name of online poker have not met with great success. With Black Friday still impacting the industry, the need for full legalization and regulation of online poker is even more imperative. That may give the latest pro poker bill, crafted by Texas Republican Joe Barton, more chance than most.

The Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection, and Strengthening UIGEA Act of 2011 is set to assault Capitol Hill in the coming weeks. It seeks to fully exempt poker from the nebulous prohibitions brought about by the 2006 UIGEA and create a market open to US friendly poker sites.

It purports that poker is a game of skill and would give residents of the United States full access to a safe and regulated market. Individual states would be able to opt out of the law at their own discretion, but without specific action, poker would remain legal in their jurisdiction.

Online poker sites will need to apply for a license if they wish to become US poker sites. These permits will last for five years each. There are several conditions which must be maintained by every site. Companies…
