PokerStars Turbo Takedown Offers Big Bonus Prizes

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

If you are a dedicated online tournament player, there is no doubt that you make time for the Turbo Takedown on the last Sunday of every month. You need 3k FPPs to buy-in to this event, but it is more than worth it as it offers an impressive prize pool of $1,000,000. The first place winner also receives a brand new Audi TT as a bonus prize!

The PokerStars download offers this special tourney at 15:30 EST to make it easier to fit into the average person’s schedule. It can be found in the tournament lobby under “Special”. If you were not able to accumulate 3,000 FPPs during the course of the month, you have the option to enter FPP satellites. View your satellite options by selecting Satellite and then FPP in the tourney section of the lobby.

A maximum of 25k people can enter this event, and the cashes start once there are 5,000 remaining. This number is so impressive because it is, at worst, 20% of the field. If your bankroll for online poker rooms is rather small at the moment, this event should offer a good return on investment for your FPPs.

Try MiniFTOPS XIX on Full Tilt Poker

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

Low stakes tournament players waited patiently for FTOPS XIX to finish and now their time to shine has come. The 19th version of MiniFTOPS starts in just over a week, hosting all the tourneys from this past FTOPS but at stakes much smaller. If you are a beginner, now is a great time to use a Full Tilt Poker referral code and play one of 45 events with huge prize pools.

As usual, there are a couple changes with this version of MiniFTOPS. Full Tilt’s exclusive multi-entry events make it possible to offer larger prize pools in a number of events. The Main Event is a prime example of this as it features a $75 buy-in and an impressive guaranteed prize pool of $1.25 million! If you are into multi-tabling, you will be happy to know that you can enter this event up to six times. Due to multi-entries, this MTT is very likely to surpass its guarantee by quite a bit.

Making its MiniFTOPS debut is the 2-day NLHE Heads Up tourney on the 12th of March. Boasting a prize pool of $100k, the $1,000+$60 buy-in is the series’ highest and will not be the first choice for…

NBC Heads-Up Championship Release Full Player Roster

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

World Series Main Events aside, the most prestigious and popular poker tournament of the year has to be the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship. With the 2011 edition just days away, rumor and speculation have been swirling for weeks. Much of the talk was focused on the list of 64 entrants. Who would be selected and who would be shunned?

Well, speculate no more, because NBC have seen fit to release the full list. It’s a roster packed with big names and more than a couple of surprise packages. Mere hours after the list hit, the muck-flinging has already begun.

A good chunk of the list contains the obvious contenders. Last year’s champion Annie Duke is joined by former winners such as Phil Hellmuth, Chris Ferguson, and Ted Forrest. Phil Ivey and PokerStars Download pro Daniel Negreanu arrive on merit, as do former WSOP champs, Chris Moneymaker, Joe Hachem, and Greg Raymer.

The list is definitely tilted towards the old school pros, NBC executives perhaps relying on their existing notoriety from poker video shows like Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker. ESPN’s Gary Wise was brazen enough to question the inclusion of David Benyamine, Phil Gordon, and…

You download free poker with an expectation that you might win some extra money, but now you also have the chance to earn some bonus Valentine’s Day prizes. For £10, you can enter the Dateless MTT at 10:30 UK time. On top of the regular prize pool, the people finishing in the top five will also receive Valentine’s Day bonus prizes. The prize put aside for the men is a lovely radio controlled model helicopter that flies indoors. This mini helicopter comes complete with a built in gyro. Are you ready for some poker excitement? FTOPS XIX is upon us, and unsurprisingly it has more money and more events than ever before. Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom Recovers from $100k Downswing

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

The online cash game phenom known as Isildur1 has been unmasked for some time now. Last month, PokerStars confirmed that the most volatile poker player in internet history was, as everyone has suspected, Swedish sensation Viktor Blom. He is now an official member of Team PokerStars Pro and has wasted no time making his new home the focus of money poker sites railbirds from around the world.

Following on from a disastrous week where he lost somewhere in the region of $140,000, Blom attempted to recover his dignity with another round of the PokerStars SuperStar showdown. Isildur1 was pit against Daniel Cates, a fellow high stakes grinder, playing 2,500 hands in 4 hours, across 4 separate tables. Viktor bossed the event from the off and although, predictably, there were some swings, he eventually emerged a comfortable $51,196 ahead.

That still left him in the red for the last couple of weeks, so he immediately went on the hunt for fresh victims. gordo16, a player, who took $100k of Isildur1 just last month, was the first to step up to the plate. Blom took him for over $150,000 worth of PLO action, to put him back in the black. Not…
